How does it work for people checking in to my business?
The brief overview….
Visitors, staff, customers etc… can all check-in to your business or location.
By registering a business you will have created a place people can check-in too.
To register go here -
https://app.covidregister.nz/register
Once you have registered you will be given a QR Code that can be printed out and put on display. Visitors can scan this code or they can search for your business and check-in. You can also can check them in as a guest.
Visitors don’t need an app installed to use the C19 Register. First time users can simply use their camera to scan the code which so they can enter their details and check-in. Alternatively, they can go to covidregister.nz and select “I want to check-in” and find your business.
For those first time users, their device should automatically ask them if they want to install the app, or they can manually install it at any time.
From that point on, visitors can open the C19 Register app, click Scan QR Code to check-in. It will remember their details.
As a business you will see live visitor logs (who is there now) and full logs grouped by day. You can also export your logs if you need to provide them to the MOH or DHB.
How do I register a business and get a QR Code?
The QR Codes are automatically generated when you register a business.
You can register a new business at https://app.covidregister.nz/register .
You can login to your existing business account at https://app.covidregister.nz/business .
There is a Print QR Code button to print out the default A4 sheet with the QR Code and instructions, or you can click on the QR Code image itself and download to use it in your own poster or labels.
Do visitors need to install an app first?
No, C19 Register is a Progressive Web App and can be used in a web browser or safely be installed on Android and iPhones like a mobile app.
When a visitor shows up that hasn’t used this before, they simply scan a QR Code with their phone camera or search for your business using their web browser, no app required. Once they have checked in, they can choose to install it like an app and from there can just open it, click Scan Qr Code and they're checked in.
This means visitors don't get stuck downloading and installing an app, registering an account before they can even check-in.
What if they don’t have a phone, can I check-in a guest?
Yes. In your business login area at https://app.covidregister.nz/business there will be a button "Check-in a Guest". This can be used for staff to enter guest details. You can use a shared business login or invite staff to your business account to check-in guests.
The business side is completely separate to the personal side. No personal data is shared.
How can we see our visitor logs?
There are a couple of ways to see visitors have checked in.
Live visitor log
A business can see active visitor logs - who has checked in but not out. This active log will automatically update every 30 seconds. To view it, on the business page (
https://app.covidregister.nz/business
) to the right of the business name, there is a timer icon. Click this to see active check-ins. This will also show a total number of visitors.
Complete Visitor log
To see the complete history of visitors for the last 4 weeks you can go to the business page ( https://app.covidregister.nz/business ) and select Visits in the top right corner.
Can I download or export visitor logs?
Yes. You can go to Visits and there will be a download button next to the business name. Simply enter the From and To dates to download the visitors in that time frame. Your CSV download will be prepared and email will be sent for you to download it. You will have 60 minutes before the link expires.
As a business, how can we tell visitors have checked in?
There are a couple ways to tell if a visitor has checked in:
When a visitor checks in they will have a confirmation screen with a time stamp. They can show this screen to staff. If they have closed the screen they can easily bring it back up, there will be an active check-in showing at the top of their screen.
A business can see live visitor log - who has checked in but not out (note, business can also see complete visitor logs). On the business page to the right of the business name, there is a timer icon. Click this to see active check-ins. This will also show a total number of visitors. This list is updated every 30 seconds.
How do visitors check-out?
There are several ways to check-out.
-
When a visitor checks-in they will be shown a confirmation screen. This screen has an option to check-out. There is the ability to adjust the time should they remember after they have left.
-
Visitors will have a blue Active Check-in bar displayed at the top of their screen when they are checked in. They can select this and check-out.
-
Businesses can see active check-ins. If you know a visitor has left, you can check them out from there. To bring up the active check-in list, select the timer icon to the right of your business name at
https://app.covidregister.nz/business
- If a visitor leaves and checks-in to another place, they will be checked out automatically as they can not be in two places at once.
- Finally, check-ins will expire. Check-outs due to inactivity/expiration will show in your visitor logs
How can we check people out of our business?
On the business page to the right of the business name, there is a timer icon. Click this to see active check-ins. There is a check-out button here for each visitor.
Can I invite staff or other users to my business?
Yes. You can invite users to your business so they can check-in guests and/or view visitor logs.

Can I share my business login?
Yes, but you should know you can invite staff or users to your business so they can login themselves.
The business login is completely separate to the personal check-in side. This means you can have a common login for staff to access the business account to check-in guests or see visitor logs. It will not give any kind of access to each other's personal information or diaries.
Can I register more than one location or business?
Yes. If you own more than one business or would like to keep visitor logs separate based on a location you can register a separate business/location so it will have its own QR Code and visitor logs.
To do this, go to your business account at https://app.covidregister.nz/business and click the "Add new Business/Location" button.
I can’t register my business? The message says it has already been registered?
This occurs when at least one person has checked-in into the business before it was registered. That business/location is then locked to stop any random person registering the business and viewing visitor logs.
If you find this please email support@webfox.co.nz and we can clear the lock which will allow you to register the business.

My phone keeps forgetting my details when I check-in
Are you using an iPhone running iOS 13.1 - 13.3? If so there is a bug in there that causes the app to forget your details. Users have found upgrading to 13.4 resolves this issue.
Go to Settings -> General and upgrade.
The QR Code is not working or says Invalid Format
It is more than likely visitors are scanning the code using the new government NZ Covid Tracer app. If so, unfortunately the new NZ Covid Tracer app will only work with it's own codes, it's not a generic qr code scanner as such, rather an app that has a scanner for its own codes. Visitors will need to scan other codes the way they normally would (usually just holding the phone camera up to it) and only use the NZ Covid Tracer app to scan official NZ Covid Tracer posters.
Covid Register will still work as usual, but not through the new government app.
Obviously with users scanning existing codes with the new app that will only work with its own codes... may get confusing. To scan the Covid-19 Register code is still easy, see here.
What's the difference between the new NZ Covid Tracer app and Covid-19 Register?
NZ Covid Tracer is just a personal diary (which Covid-19 Register also has in built) but has no business/venue compliance where a business must record the details of visitors. With Covid-19 Register, visitors can check-in for their own personal diary and it makes a log in the business register to meet business compliance requirements. Also visitors won't need to install Covid-19 Register or be pre-registered to use our codes, they can just show up, scan and register on the go. They can choose to install it for convenience next time though.
Covid Register will still work as usual, but not through the new government app.
